The Lantana tolerates no frost

How much frost can the Lantana tolerate?

The pretty lantana comes from the temperate zones of Central America and thrives there in sunny locations on slightly sandy soil. From early June to October, the small flower umbels open, changing their color in the period from flowering to blooming and make up the special charm of this plant.

Lantana is not hardy

Frost in most cases not only stops the flowering, but is also very susceptible to the small shrub. Therefore, the lantana in our region is usually cultivated as a container plant. Once you have transplanted the plant into the flowerbed, you must dig it out in time and bring it to the house. Even temperatures below five degrees can mean the end of the plant.

How is wintering?

You can winter lantern in the living room, in a cold, bright room, and even in a darkened basement room. The important thing is that the temperature is constantly between five and ten degrees. Before wintering the small shrub is also cut back.

The lantana can be verkahlen in winter quarters

During the winter months, the chilly lavender loses most of the leaves due to the changeover. In the spring, however, it willingly revives and quickly starts to flower after it has been green.

Do not forget to pour

Even in winter quarters, the pollen must be kept constantly moist. Whenever the upper centimeters feel dry, pour moderately. Waterlogging or complete moisture penetration of the substrate should be avoided as the plant is prone to root rot.

When is the lantana allowed to return to the field?

Only if no night frost threatens you can bring the lantana again on the balcony or the terrace. Be sure to get the plant used to the changed conditions slowly and do not put it in direct sunlight. After about two weeks, the lantana has changed and may move to the final summer place.

Tips

During overwintering, the lantana is very susceptible to the white fly. Therefore, regularly check for infestations, as the tiny insects can damage the plant so much that it enters.
