Why does not the hemp palm grow?
Like all palm species, the hemp palm does not grow very fast. However, if it does not grow at all, it is mostly due to care mistakes or an unfavorable location. What you can do if the hemp palm is not growing.
Reasons why a hemp palm does not grow
Hemp palms need a lot of light!
Lack of light is the most common cause if the hemp palm does not grow. The plant must stand as bright as possible. The darker the location, the less new leaves it develops.
Direct sunshine is necessary. A hemp palm needs at least two to three hours of direct sunlight every day. Therefore, you should prefer to put a hemp palm in the field or at least keep it in the bucket on the balcony or on the terrace.
If there is no suitable location with enough light, you should consider installing plant lamps.
Proper pouring and fertilizing of the hemp palm
Hemp palms do not like complete dryness of the ball nor do they tolerate waterlogging. One cause of delayed growth is often incorrect casting. Do not fertilize too often.
Water a hemp palm whenever the top layers of soil have dried out. You can tell by pressing a finger into the ground. Do not leave water in the coaster, but pour it off immediately.
Only plant older hemp palm trees in the field. The soil must be well loosened and permeable to water. As soon as waterlogging can develop, the growth of hemp palm is limited. In the worst case, waterlogging develops and the plant comes in.
After repotting, the hemp palm needs time
If a hemp palm tree does not grow after repotting or planting outdoors, it is not surprising. It takes some time to get used to the new environment or pot.
In the first few months, therefore, it does not grow at all or only very little. If you have a little patience, new leaves will develop again.
Tips
Unlike other types of palm trees, the hemp palm tree does not slow down in winter. Nevertheless, it grows less than in the summer.This is due to the lack of light during the cold season.
