If you're looking for a pretty, easy-to-care spring flower that's not poisonous, you're in the right place with forget-me-nots. The annual or perennial plant contains so few toxins that it is even edible.

Forget-me-not contains a small amount of substances that can cause poisoning in large quantities. However, the concentration in leaves and flowers is so low that you would have to eat kilos of it to develop nausea or other symptoms.

The flowers of the forget-me-not are used in the wild herb kitchen. They make colorful spring salads with other edible spring bloomers.
Forget-me-not is kept in sheltered places in the garden or outdoors in the period from April to June.
Forget-me-not has a very weak taste. The flowers are therefore collected primarily as a decoration for salads and soups or as a table decoration.
Forget-me-not are not animal toxic
Even animals can not poison themselves on forget-me-nots. If dogs and cats nibble on it, there is no danger to their health.

Forget-me-nots are among the wild herbs, with which you may even enrich the diet of hamsters, guinea pigs or rabbits.
You should, however, provide variety and never feed too much of a plant at once. You must not store picked cabbage for more than two days.
Tips
In natural medicine, forget-me-not is used as a medicinal plant with a weak effect. It only plays a minor role as there are medicinal plants with much greater potency. Tea from the flowering herb is said to have a calming and anti-inflammatory effect.
