Harvest kiwifruit properly
Kiwis are harvested in late autumn. The brown, hairy fruits of Actinidia deliciosa are hard to harvest and must be kept cool for a few weeks until ready for consumption. The smooth-shelled fruits of Actinidia arguta can be harvested ready for consumption.

The first harvest
Locally selected varieties deliver good yields from about 3-5 years. At least one male and one female plant are needed for fertilization, whereby the distance between the two should not exceed four meters. Incidentally, a male plant can fertilize up to seven female plants.
The right harvest time
When the leaves of the kiwi smoke turn yellow and the leaves begin to fall, the harvest time for the kiwis has come. At the end of September the smooth-shelled mini-kiwis are harvested and between the end of October and the beginning of November the hairy fruits of Actinidia deliciosa or Actinidia chinensis are harvested:
Harvest before or after the first frost?
Opinions often diverge on this question. Nobody doubts that the fruits should remain on the bush as long as possible for a better taste. However, some gardeners recommend harvesting kiwifruit after the first frost, otherwise they may be acidic. The others, on the other hand, do not believe that the frost promotes ripeness and advise you to take the fruit off before the first frost.
