Pond liner leaking - what to do?
If the pond constantly loses water, it is suspected that the pond liner may be leaking. In this case, you should definitely act. What you can do to get the pond liner tight again is explained in our article.
Check for leaks
If the water level in the garden pond is constantly decreasing, this does not necessarily mean a leak. Under certain circumstances, other causes may also be considered:
If the capillary barrier is not sufficiently effective, the surrounding soil will suck the pond almost empty. This problem is especially noticeable in single or continuous swampy areas around the garden pond.
Intense plantings with reeds or sedges can cause the plants to drain a lot of water from the pond, especially when they are expelling. This may well be the reason for considerable water losses in the pond, especially in smaller, intensely bordered ponds.
Older PVC films can become porous and therefore leaking in many places at the same time. If this is the case, or you suspect, you should definitely renew the pond liner.
Find a leak

Tips
The best way to protect the pond liner, if you create a 5 cm thick layer of sand underneath the film and lay a pond fleece on it. Damage to the film is already well prevented. Some types of films are much more resilient than others.
