Which pests attack a Thuja hedge?
In a favorable location and with good care of your Thuja hedge, you will hardly get involved with pests. However, there is one exception: the miner moth. How do you recognize these pests and how do you best combat them?
Which pests can occur?
There are hardly any insects that appear as pests on a tree of life. Only the miner moth can be a real problem.
If the shoot tips of Thuja first translucent and then brown, you should examine the tree for pests, in order to be able to fight them in time.
Recognize miner moth on the tree of life and fight
There are two types of miniature moths that infest the tree of life: the juniper leafminer and the thuja leafminer. The Juniper Moth flies in May and June, while the Thujaminiermotte occurs a little later from June to July. During these times, the pests lay their eggs on the thuja, which later develop into larvae and feed on the shoots.

Fight miner moths immediately
With a mild infestation, a healthy Thuja usually does quite well. Just cut off the affected shoot generously.
If the infestation is very strong, there is a risk that it will spread to the whole hedge and kill the trees. In this case, you must resort to a radical pruning and, if necessary, treat the Thujen twice with appropriate funds from the gardening market.
Fungal infections occur more frequently
The dying of the instinct is shown by brown tips, which, however, have no feeding channels inside. Fungus is usually caused by an unfavorable, too humid location.
By regularly thuja thinning and a not too dense planting distance, you can well prevent attack by fungi.
If possible, do not water from above and never in the evening as the shoots will not dry properly.
Tips
Thuja brown tips do not necessarily indicate pest or fungal attack. Sometimes they are just dried up. The tree of life has to be watered more often at the beginning, whereby waterlogging is absolutely to be avoided.
