Maintain lavender trees properly
A lavender as a high stem is a particularly unusual eye-catcher. Such a tree is particularly good in a possibly spacious bucket on the balcony or terrace. In terms of care, the same rules apply to the lavender tree as to any other lavender plant.
A lavender with stem?
The sight of a lavender high stem exerts a great attraction on many people, the plant is mainly known as a lush waxy shrub. Less known, however, is that the lavender is not a perennial (as is often assumed), but is counted among the semi-shrubs. As such, the lavender lumbers with increasing age and can also train a tribe with appropriate education. However, so that the lavender tree is not "wild" again and falls back into its natural growth form, appropriate care and cutting measures are necessary.
Educate lavender trees as bonsai
Just as the lavender can be raised to the high-stem, the plant can also be designed as bonsai. However, it is important to proceed with great sensitivity and patience, because lavender is quite sensitive due to its actually quite widely branched and deep root system.
The care of the lavender high stem
With regard to care, the same rules apply to the lavender tree as to any other lavender. After all, it is not a species of its own, but only a specially grown lavender bush. In particular, the bucket must be as large as possible - unless you want to pull a bonsai, but must also be carefully accustomed to the typical shallow bowls - because the roots of lavender need a lot of space. Is the lavender tree hardy?
Whether the Hochstämmchen is hardy depends on the specific lavender from which it was grown. Only true lavender, which should therefore be planted out in Germany as the only one in the garden, is considered really hardy. In some milder regions (such as winegrowing regions), the winter-resistant Speiklavendel and the Lavandin may be sheltered in winter. All other varieties should overwinter under cold conditions, otherwise they will freeze.
Tips & Tricks
Lavender is hardly suitable as a houseplant. Therefore, the lavender tree should not be in the room, if possible, but is better off in the garden or on the balcony.
