Worth knowing about kiwi flower
The yellowish white kiwi flowers open at the end of May. They are about 5 cm tall and fragrant. The flowers of male and female plants look different. Only from female flowers can fruits develop.

The abundant flowering only promises good yield if a male grows near the female plant. This is needed for fertilization, since kiwis are dioecious plants. A male plant can fertilize several female plants. The hybrids breeds, on which male and female organs unite in one flower, do not need a pollinator.
How do you recognize male and female flowers?
If you are not sure whether you have planted a male or a female plant, you can see it on the flower. The female flowers have a white stylus in the middle, around which are arranged yellow stamens. In the middle of the male flower, on the other hand, there are only yellow stamens.
Flowering and fruiting
In the self-grown kiwi plants, it often takes ten years and more until the first flowering. The refined kiwi stalks from specialist retailers are already blossoming in the third year. At the beginning of June the kiwi smoke is in full bloom. The fruiting is influenced by various factors:
The fruits are depending on the variety about 5-10 cm tall, oblong and have initially smooth and later hairy shell. They ripen in late autumn, are harvested immature in October / November and ripen during storage.
