The most famous honeysuckle varieties are red honeysuckle and blue honeysuckle.
Red honeysuckle are poisonous and should not be planted in gardens where children play or dogs and cats are.
It is different with the blue honeysuckle. Their berries are not poisonous. However, most varieties are not suitable for consumption because they have no aroma and are very slimy. An exception is the Maibeere called Blue Honeysuckle Kamchatka. Their berries are fresh edible and also suitable for jams and other berry recipes.
