Begonias are among the most popular indoor and garden plants, as they inspire even those without real green thumbs with a true flower fullness. A special feature in addition to the tubers or Eisbegonien represent the special Elatior Begonias, which are usually cultivated as houseplants.
Properties of Elatior Begonias
Elatior begonias are significantly larger than, for example, the estimated burial and trough egg begonias and usually reach heights between about 30 and 50 cm. Elatior Begonias align with their growth very closely to the current "day length". Thus, at least 14 hours of daylight at a time results in increased shoot and leaf growth (vegetative growth), while "short days" with less than 13 hours of sunlight tend to promote flowering. Elatior begonias therefore often bloom as indoor plants on a window sill during the winter months. But you can also regulate the growth by changing the location of the plants or provide a controlled daylength (for example, by a plant light lamp).
