Repotting maple - Tips for a successful pot change
The leisurely growth of Asian maple species does not imply that the shrubs linger forever in the same pot. While maple trees in the garden do not like transplanting, repotting for maple in the tub is a gardening program. When and how to properly repot the ornamental wood, you will learn here.
When is the right time?
Experience has shown that the substrate in the bucket leached after 2 to 3 years, so you should repot your maple in fresh soil. If root strands have already outgrown the bottom opening, the measure will be applied earlier. The best time is at the end of hibernation, just before the foliage shoot in the spring.
Preparatory work - this is how you maple maple properly
With the substrate dried on, changing to a new bucket is easier. Prudent preparation of root ball and pot support growth. That is how it goes:
Remove any leftovers from the soil by shaking or shedding the root ball. As the roots drain, clean the pot if it can be used again.
Skillfully potted - you should pay attention
If there was a lot of pressure in the previous pot, please grab a larger bucket. As a rule of thumb for the correct diameter applies that between the root ball and edge of the vessel should be two fingers width space. Proceed as follows:
Please make sure that the previous planting depth remains unchanged. It simplifies later watering when you fill the soil up to 2 cm below the pot edge. So nothing can spill over. In the end, water your potted maple abundantly.
Tips
Repotting is not necessarily associated with a pruning. In this process, no root mass is lost, as is the case during transplanting in the bed. It is therefore your horticultural decision, after the pot change too long shoots shorten a little.
