The dwarf date palm is only partially hardy
Dwarf date palms are only partially winter hardy. They tolerate slight frost temperatures, which are often exceeded in this country. It is better to overwinter the dwarf date palm in the bucket in the house or in a sheltered outdoor area.
Slight minus temperatures tolerate the dwarf date palm
Like all date palms, the dwarf date palm can cope with slight frost temperatures. Lower than six degrees, however, these may not fall, since the palm then freezes.

In the house the dwarf date palm needs a frost-free room for the winter. Suitable examples are:
The rooms must not be heated, but temperatures should not fall below freezing.
In dark wintering places you should install plant lamps to keep the palm bright enough.
Overwinter dwarf date palms outside
In a sheltered location, you can try to overwinter the dwarf date palm outside. If you do not have a greenhouse, sometimes this is the best solution as the palm trees can get quite wide and take up a lot of space.
Place the bucket on a dampened surface and wrap the pot with burlap.
The location must be as bright as possible. The palm should be protected from drafts and too much winter wetness.
Do not water too much in winter
During the winter, the dwarf date palm needs much less water.Pour so that the root ball never completely dries out. It is not fertilized during the winter.
If the palm is in a warmer place, you should spray it from time to time in the water to increase the humidity. This measure prevents pest infestation.
After the winter, get used to light carefully
After the winter, you must slowly get your dwarf date palm back to light and air. The UV light can otherwise cause brown spots on the leaves.
Place the bucket in a partially shaded or shady place for one to two weeks before returning the dwarf date palm to direct sunlight.
