Which is the best way to preserve a rose?
Whether you want to preserve your bridal bouquet or make a particularly beautiful rose flower last forever: There are several ways to make the "Queen of Flowers" look very fresh for a very long time. We have compiled the best methods for you here.
Air drying is only conditionally recommended
Probably the best known method of rose preservation is also the least suitable: the roses are sprayed all around with hair spray and then hung upside down in a dark and warm place to dry. Although this method usually works quite well, however, the so-conserved roses are very fragile and also difficult to clean.
Not only beautiful, but also tasty: roses candied
Perhaps not necessarily as preservation for eternity, but a great gift idea - for Valentine's Day - is the ability to dip rose flowers in sugar syrup and thus not only to preserve, but at the same time to a sweet treat. But you should only use roses from their own cultivation, as purchased specimens are poisoned with pesticides. The sugar syrup is obtained by boiling a cup of sugar and a cup of water together and allowing the resulting solution to cool to about 60 ° C.
Optimal: make roses with glycerine stable
On the other hand, the method of preserving roses with glycerin is more permanent. For this you mix glycerine (available at the pharmacy) and water in the ratio 1: 2 and fill the mixture in a vase. Place the rose to be preserved in it - cut the stalk at a slight angle beforehand - and wait until you notice small, escaping droplets on the petals. At this time, the rose has been soaked in glycerin and is now perfectly preserved. Make sure, however, that the flower is no longer in contact with water.
Perfect: keep rose petals fresh with silica
Another very successful method is to place the rose in silica granules or silica gel. Alternatively, you can also use salt or washing powder, both agents have the same effect: they deprive the flower of the flower and thus make it durable. This gentle drying also has the advantage that the beautiful colors of the rose are also preserved.
Tips
In addition, roses can be dried by dipping them in hot, colorless wax. However, you should then immediately cool the flower in ice water.
