The demanding rose wants to be fertilized and watered according to her needs. In particular, in the case of insufficient fertilization, the leaves often turn yellow, which is why yellow leaves are usually an indication of an undersupply of important nutrients. However, the discolored foliage may also be a first indication of an infection with the blackspot.
Rose petals turn yellow in case of nutrient deficiency
Yellow-staining leaves can be an indication of a general lack of nutrients, but also allow conclusions about the absence of individual minerals or trace elements. Nitrogen deficiency, for example, is manifested in yellow leaves and the increased occurrence of vents; in the case of phosphorus, manganese or magnesium deficiency, the leaves turn yellow and are finally discarded. An iron deficiency, the so-called chlorosis, shows itself on yellow leaves and darker leaf veins. A nutritional deficiency can have very different causes.
Do not water roses too vigorously
Although roses need a lot of moisture, but should not be poured too generously. Water also flushes the nutrients out of the soil and thus leaches them out. Above all, make sure that you do not water the roses with a strong stream of water or something similar, rather use a watering can with attachment.
Fertilize roses as needed
In addition, insufficient or incorrect fertilization may be the cause of the yellowing leaves. Roses should receive a main fertilizer three times a year and be supplied with a low-dose liquid fertilizer in between.

However, the yellow coloration is not always due to a lack of nutrients: even with an infection with the black turkey fungus, the rose petals first yellow, then develop the characteristic black-brown spots.
