Savoy cabbage is a type of kale with curly leaves and a mild aromatic taste. The annual plant is available in many varieties for early, medium and late cultivation. This allows the Savoy cabbage to be grown in the garden over a longer period of time. An overview is given below.
Early varieties
Early savoy cabbage is sown under glass in March or pulled on the warm windowsill. From March, sowing takes place in the cold frame and from April can be sown directly into the bed. Preferred plants come to the bed from the end of April. Depending on the sowing time, the cuttings harvest begins in July.
Medium varieties
The cultivation of medium varieties begins in April in the cold frame, time for planting is from May to July. The harvest lasts from August to November.

Late varieties for the winter harvest are hardy and also defy temperatures around -10 ° C. Their sowing takes place from July to August, from October can be harvested. If the overwintering succeeds, fresh savoy cabbage from the garden is available until April.
