Before repainting, it often makes sense to sand a garden shed
So you grind the garden house before painting properly
If the regular renovation painting of an arbor is required, the wood must first be professionally pretreated. You think the necessary sanding would be a breeze and possible without any further considerations? That's not the case, because in this work, too, there are different things to keep in mind.
Why should be sanded?
In this step, remove the weathered and contaminated wood layer and rough the surface. As a result, paints and varnishes adhere better to the substrate and do not break off again during the first rainfall with the old varnish layer.
Be sure to match the sanding method to the wood
Heavily weathered, aged wood and a coarse belt grinder do not handle well. Splintering wood and even cracks can be the result of this rude treatment.
As a gentle alternative, we recommend:
method
As a rule of thumb, the older the wood, the more careful and with finer grain size you should tackle the layers of paint.
On straight surfaces, depending on the weathering condition of the wood, the delta sander is used. Run the machine evenly and do not stay too long in one place, so that no bumps are cut into the wood.
You must grind the cracks of tongue and groove joints by hand. Suitable for this purpose is steel wool, as it adapts very well to the substrate. Alternatively, you can grab the good old sandpaper to gently get the paint out of the wells.
The right sandpaper
To clear the arbor thoroughly from all paint residues at least two operations are necessary. The coarse cut is done with a 80 grit, the fine grind with grit 120, better still 150 or 180.
Haftgrund, the convenient alternative
It goes faster with special primer, which is applied over the entire surface of the old paint layers. Allow the layer to dry well, only then the new coat will adhere reliably.
Tips
If you have used resistant wood species in the garden house construction against blue mushrooms, you can do without the brushing. The morbid charm of the weathering wood goes well with natural gardens and can be deliberately used in landscaping.
