Strelitzia: 5 species and their essentials
Strelitzia is not the same as Strelitzia. There is this plant in various designs, plant heights and flower colors. Below is an overview of the 5 species, all of which belong to the family Strelitzia and are originally from South Africa.
The Royal Strelitzia - Strelitzia reginae
This species is probably the best known and is used in this country like a houseplant in pots. It is also referred to as a bird of paradise flower and parrot flower, thanks to its colorful flowers.

The Rush-Strelitzia - Strelitzia juncea
This Strelitzienart reaches a stature height between 1 and 2 m and occurs among the other species, especially with their different foliage. The leaves are binsenartig (without recognizable Spreite). They reach a length of 2 m. The flowers appear between May and October and are very similar to those of the King Strelitzia.
The Mountain Strelitzia - Strelitzia caudata
Less known is the treelike mountain Strelitzie. It is up to 6 m high, is also evergreen and has up to 2 m long leaves. Their flowers stand out with the blue color of the bracts.
The White Strelitzia - Strelitzia alba
This Strelitzia grows tree-like and gets up to 10 m high. It blooms from May to June and lives up to its name with its white sepals and bright petals.
