The right location for a peach tree is as sunny as possible
The originally from China peach tree is cultivated for a long time in Germany. Old cultivars such as the Red Eichstädter (also known as "Kernechter vom Vorgebirge") testify to this. However, the heat-loving peaches are quite demanding in terms of their location.
Peaches love the sun
Optimal is a sunny as possible, wind-protected cookies with a loose and nutrient-rich substrate. A southern orientation without shade, but with a protective against wind and drafts limiting (eg house wall) should be the right choice. Peaches thrive best where wine grows well. Depending on the variety, however, cultivation is also possible in rougher regions.
White flesh varieties are less sensitive
If you are not living in a winegrowing region, we recommend growing more robust varieties. Most white-fleshed peaches are less sensitive to less-than-ideal locations and feel comfortable in the northern climes. In addition, you should choose a frost-resistant peach whose flowers do not freeze at the onset of night frosts. In such a case, the variety "Flamingo" is a good choice.
Tips & Tricks
Keep an eye out for new breeds that have been specially bred for greater frost tolerance and resistance to ruffling.
