Build a waterfall of natural stones - You should pay attention to this
A waterfall in the garden is a very special eye-catcher - especially if it recreates a natural landscape. With a little manual skill, you build a natural waterfall yourself, for which there are different methods.
Preparatory work
It is advantageous if the garden has a slope or at least a natural elevation - such as a hill - is present. Otherwise, simply create an artificial survey, for example with the help of a heap of mineral concrete or gravel in the desired height. Compact the material carefully and cover it with potting soil and some large boulders. On this artificial slope, you lay the creek leading to the waterfall, for which you can either use pond liner, preformed plastic shells or even concrete or natural stone.
How to build the waterfall from natural stones
If the basis of the waterfall is film, use a special watercourse film if possible. This is coated with fine sand and looks more natural than the otherwise commonly used pond liner. Before laying out the foil, all stones and roots in the area of the stream and waterfall should be removed, as a further protection against damage lay a root fleece underneath. The edges of the film are laminated with natural stone chunks of different sizes. However, you can also make the creek bed and the waterfall from concrete and press natural stone into the still soft concrete. However, this variant usually looks very artificial. Another alternative is mortared or dry-piled natural stone walls, from the upper edge of the waterfall flows into an underlying pool. This form is very well suited to effectively integrate a stream on a paved slope.
Brush natural stones with liquid pond liner
Mortar the stones with natural stone mortar and then coat the surfaces with liquid pond liner, which is available for purchase in various colors. Apply them in several layers, adding sand between each layer before the paint is dry. In this way, the waterfall looks much more natural. Remember, however, that not all natural stones are suitable for the construction of a waterfall: Some types of stone draw a lot of water, which is why harder rock should always be preferred.
