The requirements of Spitzwegerich for its location
The plantain (Plantago lanceolata) is a perennial that has been used for centuries for human and horse healing purposes. Spitzwegerich can also be cultivated and harvested in the garden at the right location.
The right location for the ribwort plantain
The Spitzwegerich prefers sunny to full sun locations, but less growth-friendly, it also thrives in partial shade. In the garden should be selected for the sowing of ribwort plantain a place that is as sunny as well as equally moist. Since the ribwort plantain can form very deep roots, cultivation in the pot or on the balcony is only possible to a limited extent.
Needs of plantain to the ground
Ideally, the soil should be moderately heavy for ribwort with a good balance of loam and sand. A nutrient-rich soil need only be fertilized sparingly with compost or herbal oil. Low-limy sites with a slightly acidic pH are preferred by Spitzwegerich.
Tips & Tricks
Loosen very heavy soils to prevent waterlogging with aggregates such as pumice or quartz sand, before settling plantain.
