Planting rust husks: A guide
Rust shells are not only very attractive in a vintage garden. Particularly popular are stone landscapes in rust shells. Learn below how to create a mini-stone landscape step by step and how else to plant your rust tray.
The rock garden in the rust bowl
Rust shells are almost predestined for stone landscapes. For the miniature stone landscape you need:
1. The drainage
If your grate tray is to stand outdoors, it needs a water drain in the ground, with larger grate shells more than one. If this is not the case, you should reach for the metal drill and drill in holes the size of fingernail.
Cover the drains with pots or drainage fleeces that are curved upwards to prevent blockage.
If your grate cup should be inside, you can do without the drainage holes. But then pour carefully.
2. Fill with soil and plant
Now fill the grate tray with soil just below the edge and press small coolers to the places where the succulents want to be placed. Plant your succulents and gently press the soil around the plants. If you have mini-grasses on hand, put one or two small plants in the shell. When buying plants, be sure to buy grasses that have a very low water requirement, otherwise they will go alongside the more drought-loving succulents.
3. Decorate
Now you can get creative: Distribute stones, woods and other decorative elements as you like, for example, rustic clay figures in the shell. But do not put it too full!
4. The degree
Finally, cover the earth with pebbles.
Other plant ideas for rust husks
If you have a larger grate, you can combine plants of different sizes with stones. Especially beautiful is a larger ornamental grass in the middle, a few flowering, lower perennials around and small upholstery plants on the edge. In between, skillfully place a beautiful stone or a root. Cover the earth decoratively with pebbles, moss or mulch. Also conceivable is a combination of pebbles and mulch, which allows a beautiful play of colors of brown and white.
Climbing plants are also beautiful in the rust tray, especially if you let them hang from a hill.
