Plant a watering can
A planted watering can is a very pretty decoration for the garden, balcony and terrace. However, you should make some arrangements before planting. What these are and how you can plant your watering can step by step is explained below.
Convert the watering can to the flower pot
In order for a watering can to become a flowerpot, it needs two things above all else: a large opening at the top and drainage to drain excess water. Bear in mind that you will not be able to use your watering can as a watering can again after this conversion!
Depending on which material your watering can is, you need different tools: For a watering can made of plastic, you only need a very sharp pair of scissors or a sharp knife and possibly a drill for drilling the drainage (with a little skill but that is also possible with a pointy knife and a screwdriver). To machine a watering can made of metal, you need significantly more tools and a little more time. In the following, we will explain how to plant a watering can made of metal.
Step by step plant a metal watering can
1. Cut the opening
First, a larger opening is sawn into the watering can. For this, the entire upper area is cut off with a hacksaw. You can omit this step, but then have very little space to plant.
2. Sand the opening
Metal is known to be sharp-edged, especially if cut straight. Therefore, the edge must now be smoothed so you can not hurt yourself. To do this, use sandpaper or file for metal and push in larger remnants with a hammer.
3. Drill drainage
Now drill several small holes in the underside so that excess water can run off and the plants do not have to suffer from waterlogging. File or sand the edges again.
4. Fill the watering can
As a lower layer, add one to two centimeters of expanded clay to the watering can. Alternatively, you can also use pottery shards or stones.
Then fill the watering can with soil just below the edge. Use high quality substrate or / and mix some compost under the ground.
5. Plant the watering can
Now put the plants in the watering can. Decorate them creatively. Select plants according to location.
