Correct roses for the vase
From the moment you buy, you can see if a rose will quickly fade or stay in the vase for a long time. Pay particular attention to the interface: If this is fresh, the cut rose has good chances to stay fresh even in your vase at home for up to 14 days. Already accumulated interfaces, however, are an indication that the Rose have treated bad in the business and as a result deadly microorganisms have settled on it. In addition to the interface, you should also consider the buds closely: These are optimally no longer closed when buying, but already slightly open - but not fully bloomed.

With appropriate location and good care you can enjoy your cut roses at home for up to 14 days, sometimes even longer. For this you should shorten the woody stem of the rose and cut it obliquely for about five centimeters. Choose a clean vase made of a smooth material (for example glazed ceramic, glass or porcelain) and fill it with fresh, lukewarm water. Immediately place the freshly cut roses in the water so that the cable paths in the air do not immediately close again. Cold water does not like the roses, but, if they look a bit slack, can be revived by a brief immersion in hot water.
Why should the stems be cut at all?
The cutting of roses is so important for two reasons: On the one hand, they make the plant easier to absorb water and, on the other hand, they remove the breeding ground for microorganisms, such as bacteria or fungi, which prefer to settle on such interfaces and accelerate the final death of the rose can. For this reason, you should cut a piece of the rose stem diagonally every day.
Maintain roses in the vase properly
For a long shelf life of the cut rose you should change daily the water and carefully clean the vase, so that no bacteria or fungi can settle there. Also place the vase in a breezy but warm and bright location. Fresh preservatives such as sugar, rinsing agent, aspirin & Co. should not be added to the water as the plant can not absorb nutrients anyway due to lack of roots. Incidentally, you can make roses properly by preserving them.
Tips
With a little luck, you do not need to throw away your withered cut roses, but you can root them and get a new rose out of them - after all, these rose stalks are just cuttings. For this purpose, cut off the withered flower head and change the vase water daily. If possible place the rose in a glass vase. However, the rooting is usually successful only in the summer as well as very freshly cut stems.
