Cut the magnificent candle properly
The magnificent candle is in Central Europe in the field only very limited hardy, but can be overwintered in pots and tubs. In a carefully selected and prepared location, this shrub needs some attention only in the fall and winter.

The bloom time of the superb candle lasts approximately from June to October. During this time, the approximately 1 meter high, horstbildende perennial produces numerous single flowers, but each fading very quickly. Bloomed flowers can be plucked for visual reasons, but also fall off over time. In order for the long, filigree shoots of the plant do not kink in strong wind exposed locations, sometimes can be done on a support rod.
The pruning in autumn
If you want to try to overwinter the magnificent candle in a protected location in the field, then you should promote the formation of so-called wintering buds with a pruning after flowering. To do this, cut off the herbaceous stems of the plant about 10 centimeters above the ground. In addition, this pruning a more branched sprouting of the plants (even in a culture in the tub) promoted in the next growing season.
Reasons for a later pruning in the spring

An alternative to propagation via seeds is the cultivation of cuttings of the prairie candle in perennial plants. These can be easily obtained when cutting back by cutting about 10 centimeters long plant parts. These are rooted in lean substrate by removing all leaves below the upper two pairs of leaves and the cuttings are two-thirds in the ground.
