Blots on the leaves indicate fungal disease

Eye blotch disease is common
Ophthalmopathy, also known as "peacock's eye", is one of the most common fungal diseases in plants in our latitudes - naturally affecting olives as well. This disease is manifested by necrotic spots on the leaves and is caused by the fungus Spilocaea oleagina. The infected leaves are usually dropped from the tree.
Mark of eye-spot disease
This fungal disease develops slowly over several years and usually appears in spring or early summer. A treatment of this highly infectious disease - always remove infected leaves immediately and dispose of them! - is usually possible only by chemical fungicides. Most suitable are copper-based fungicides. With only a small infestation, you can also give one part of whole milk to nine parts of water and apply this mixture to the leaves via a spray bottle. The contained lactic acid bacteria fight the fungus in a natural way.
Further leaf spot disease
In addition to the ocular disease, another fungus causes leaf spots. Mycocentrospora cladosporioides is characterized by a yellowish coloring of the leaves, besides, these are speckled with black spots. This mushroom is best treated with a copper-containing fungicide.
Fungal disease often occurs after lice infestation
The fungus Fumago vagans mainly covers the stem with a kind of dark soot. This soot disease usually occurs as a result of infestation with shield or mealybugs, but also in a hibernation of the olive in warm rooms with high humidity. This fungus has little effect on the health of the affected olive tree, only affected leaves should be washed off with a soapy water.
Tips & Tricks
Many fungal diseases can be prevented by the correct wintering of the olive tree. Mushrooms occur more often when it is warm and the humidity is high. Therefore, a cool winter, preferably outdoors, makes sense.
