Oleander better not plant into the free bag
The oleander is a native of the Mediterranean area flowering shrub, which is found mainly in North Africa, in southern and central Italy and in Spain and Greece, not only as a cultural, but also as a wild plant. At suitable locations, the oleander can grow up to several meters and develop a very impressive stature. However, such favorable conditions are - especially for climatic reasons - not found in this country.
Oleander is not hardy
Although older and therefore more robust oleanders can tolerate temperatures of up to minus five degrees Celsius - but only for very short periods of time and in no case in combination with ground frost and other bad habits. In other words: The oleander adapted to the mild Mediterranean climate is neither winter nor frost hardy and would, if you plant it in the garden, would most likely not survive a typical German winter. Therefore, a Kübelhaltung is always recommended to be able to transfer the shrub in time to winter quarters. The plant harms a dark hibernation - for example in a cellar - not necessarily, only frost-free it should be.

Now, as is well known, winters in Germany are not the same everywhere, so that planting can be tried in some regions, such as the German wine-growing regions. So if you live in the Rhine-Moselle area and the winters are rather mild for you: Try it calmly. However, for an experiment of this kind, it is better to choose an older, already hardened plant and pack it well, for example with a garden mat and / or bubble wrap. Also it does not get terribly cold every winter, some of these seasons remain mild. In such months, you do not necessarily have to give the oleander, but you can leave it outside - but as soon as the temperatures drop, it is necessary to react quickly and to put the bush in the cellar. Of course, this only works if it is cultivated in a bucket.
Temporary planting possible over the summer
However, you can also use your oleander temporarily - d. H. temporally limited - and plant out together with planter in the garden. Only the planter should be removed, so that the shrub is only in the plant pot in the ground. This pot usually has holes on the bottom so that the roots of the oleander can grow through and provide itself with water from the soil. As soon as it gets too cold, the shrub can easily be dug up again and overwinter under cold-weather conditions.
Tips
Do not leave your oleander too early to winter quarters: the longer the plant stands outside, the harder it hardens and, in addition, weathers the light-poor months better. Only in frosty periods, the shrub must be granted.
