To roast nuts at home
In the supermarket you will find all common nut varieties, only these are usually unroasted. If you prefer roasted nuts in between for Christmas baking or snacking, you have to take action yourself.
Roast nuts
Roasted nuts always taste delicious, in the cake, as an ingredient in cookies or as a sweet or spicy snack in between. Roasting at home takes little time and is not labor intensive. Choose between two variants:
Both variants bring equally good results, with the roasting in the pan is usually faster and is recommended for sensitive nut kernels as the oven.
Roasting in the oven
Just hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds and macadamia unfold their full aroma when roasting in the oven. Try it.
- Preheat the oven to 170 degrees. Cover a baking tray with baking paper. Put the nuts on the tin, spread loosely, not too close to each other. Roast for about 15 minutes. The nuts should be golden brown and smell.
After the roasting process, let the hot nuts cool down. Warm hazelnuts can easily rid you of their brown skin. Simply rub the nuts between your hands.
Roasting in the pan
The roasting in the pan should be done without fat if possible. Just pour the nuts into the hot pan and roast them several times until they have a nice brown color and smell good. That's about ten to fifteen minutes away. Roasting in the pan is particularly suitable for pine nuts, as the kernels are quite sensitive and would burn in the oven.
Refine roasted nuts
Once the nuts in the oven or pan are the right color, they are put in a bowl to cool. Now the nuts can be seasoned to your taste.
