The best methods: preserving lovage
Lovage grows quickly and can be harvested several times in the garden season. These big crops can be hard to use immediately. Therefore, it is recommended to preserve the lovage. Here are the best methods for preserving.
Freeze lovage
One method that is less recommended, but unknowingly frequently implemented, is the freezing of lovage. Since lovage is extremely tender, freezing makes it soggy and tasteless.
If you still want to freeze the maggie herb, chop it up roughly. Then put the herb in freezer bags or plastic cans. Now it is ready for freezing. Alternatively, the lovage can be chopped finely and poured into ice cube molds. These can later be added to the soup in portions, among others.
Lovage dry
Probably the best and safest method of preserving maggotica is drying. Ideally, the herb is dried within two days. This is how it preserves its aroma.
That's how it's done:
In addition to the stems and leaves, the roots can be dried well. They are previously cut to pieces. After drying, the plant parts are placed in a glass or other sealable container.
Put lovage in oil or vinegar
Another method is to put in oil or vinegar. The essential oils are absorbed by oil and vinegar. The aroma is perfectly preserved. For the oil preservation:
In the vinegar preservation procedure is similar. After the maggie herb has been put into vinegar, it should be removed after two weeks. Then the vinegar took on the aroma. During this waiting period, ideally put it in a warm place.
Tips & Tricks
