The ideal location for the herb snail
Due to their special composition, different conditions prevail in the various areas of a herb snail or herbal spiral, which best meet the requirements of the selected herbs. When laying the stone spiral, the many different species can be placed in the most suitable place.
Most herbs love the sun
Most herbs need sun, so the herb should ideally be grown in a sunny spot. The bed is divided into several zones with a wide variety of substrates from lean and dry to nutrient-rich and moist. It creates different proportions in terms of light and shade and moisture. In addition, the herbs benefit from the heat that the stones store in the sun and release slowly. This heat storage even mitigates light night frosts.
The different zones
The upper zone of the herbal spiral is fully sunny, the soil permeable, lean and dry. The sunny to half-shaded middle zone provides a moderately nutrient-rich and dry location, while the sunny and nutrient-rich lower zone provides a moist surface.
Tips
Since the location of the herbs should be sensibly close to the house or kitchen, the herbal spiral is often included in the terrace design.
