Maintaining jasmine as a houseplant
Depending on the variety from March to May or in spring, real jasmine flowers as a houseplant in the house. It forms long tendrils that should be pulled on a trellis. With proper care, you will enjoy this beautiful houseplant for many years.
The right location in the house
Jasmine likes it bright, even full sun. A place in the flower window is suitable, provided that the pot is not too narrow. The window should be open, because frequent ventilation gets the jasmine good. Avoid drafts.
However, you should protect jasmine from direct midday sun. The window glass looks like a burning glass and leaves ugly brown spots on the leaves.
Jasmine gets even better if you take it in the bucket on the terrace or balcony in the summer. You just have to bring it back to the house in time for the frost.
It depends on the right pot
The pot must be clean and big enough for the root ball. A large drain hole is important so that the irrigation water can drain. Waterlogging does not tolerate jasmine at all.
As potting soil, normal potting soil with some mature compost is sufficient. Alternatively, buy soil for flowering plants at the hardware store. If you want to pull the jasmine as bonsai, a mixture of 80% Akadama and 20% compost soil is ideal. To prevent waterlogging, you should create a drainage layer in the bottom of the pot or loosen the soil with expanded clay.
At least every three years in the spring you have to repot the jasmine in fresh soil.
So pour and fertilize the houseplant properly
Jasmine does not like it too dry, but not too wet. Always water the plant when the upper layer of soil has dried out. Excess irrigation water pour off immediately.
In the house it likes the jasmine if you spray it once a day with water to increase the humidity.
You need to fertilize jasmine as a houseplant during the growing season every 14 days with a liquid fertilizer.
Do you have to cut genuine jasmine?
Basically you do not have to cut the room jasmine. Only if the tendrils are too long, you can grab the scissors. Shorten the shoots only slightly, so that you do not remove too many blossom approaches.
In winter, jasmine must be cool
In winter, the jasmine needs a cool phase. In the heated living room it is much too warm. As a result, the houseplant will not bloom in the next year.
Place the pot in a bright place where the temperatures are between five and ten degrees.
