How can I save my withered hydrangea?
The hydrangea is one of the thirsty plants that quickly hang the leaves and dry up in case of insufficient water supply. If you have forgotten to water for several days, the hydrangea often presents a miserable picture: it leaves the leaves hanging or has even lost part of the foliage. However, this is no reason to throw the plant away, because you can often save the hydrangea.
Check the condition of the hydrangea
First, consider the hydrangea exactly:
Unless the plant has dried completely, it is not too late. Hydrangeas usually recover quickly and, if the right measures are taken, they will be redesigned after a few days.
Water the plant thoroughly
If the hydrangea is heavily dried, you must water it immediately. Simple pouring is no longer enough.
Soak hydrangeas in the pot in a bucket filled with water until no more bubbles appear. Outdoor hydrangeas are flushed so that the moisture can penetrate into the deeper layers of the earth.
Provide the hydrangea regularly with water in the next few days. Potted plants may even need to be watered several times a day.
Be sure to tip away remaining water in the coaster, as even dried-up hydrangea is sensitive to waterlogging. The roots of the already weakened plant begin to rot quickly, which would mean the final death of the hydrangea.
The first green shows up
Often you can observe already two days after these rescue attempts, how on the still living branches new buds show up. Even dry branches often form fresh green or thickening leaf buds in the lower part.
Now is the time to cut off all dead plant parts with a clean and sharp secateurs.
Flowers only in the following year
If the hydrangea has dried up almost completely you probably have to do without flowers this season. The umbels are sitting on the tips of the shoots and therefore dry up very quickly. With good care, however, the hydrangea will blossom again next year.

A withered hydrangea needs a lot of power to form fresh leaves. So fertilize the plant regularly with hydrangea, azalea or Rododendron fertilizer.
