Are L-bricks suitable for raised bed construction?

Of course, they are also suitable for the construction of raised beds, but this option will be well considered and weighed against others thoroughly: L-stones are very heavy and can hardly move by only one or two people.

For example, an L-stone measuring 80 x 50 x 40 centimeters - ie within the classic raised bed height - weighs more than 100 kilograms. Since you need about 12 of them for the construction of a conventional raised bed, you can come to a total weight of around 1200 kilograms with the stones alone - nobody can handle this alone, so the stones have to be moved with machines. Although you can usually borrow the required construction machinery, you should also have the necessary know-how to lay the stones. Therefore: If you are an accomplished craftsman, you can certainly handle such a DIY project. Everyone else is better off moving on to another material or getting suitable professionals.
What does the raised bed construction with L-bricks cost?
L stones are not necessarily the cheapest materials for a raised bed: a single 80 centimeter high stone costs about 20 EUR - that makes about 50 EUR per running meter. In addition there are the costs for the foundation as well as for the rent of the necessary construction machines. For a larger raised bed, which may also serve as a support for a slope, costs in the four-digit area are due - which are even greater if you have the work done by a specialist firm.

A solid foundation is essential when placing L-bricks: this involves excavating a correspondingly deep pit, solidifying the ground with a vibrator and filling it with gravel. Finally, there is a thin concrete ceiling. L stones are very heavy, so the floor must be fixed accordingly.
