Tips for growing raspberries for the garden
As a raspberry lover, you probably can not have enough raspberries in the garden. Just grow some shrubs yourself. This is not difficult and even garden beginners succeed - if you follow a few tips.
Different method to breed raspberries
The best time to grow raspberries is autumn. How to get new plants:
Theoretically, you can of course also from the seeds of raspberry fruits to draw new plants. That is not recommended.
On the one hand, the recovery of varietal seeds is quite expensive. On the other hand, it takes a long time before you can harvest the first raspberries. When propagating through cuttings you harvest, however, already in the year after planting.
Stinging streamers
Raspberries form many foothills that spread throughout the garden.
If you want to grow new plants, you sting the strongest offshoot generous. But make sure that it is indeed the desired raspberry variety and not wild offshoots from the neighbor.
Plant them to the prepared location. If you have enough roots left on the plant, the stolon will grow rapidly.
Grow raspberries from root cuttings
This method is the safest way to grow exactly the type of raspberry you want.
Carefully release the raspberry plant on the side. Use a sharp spade to prick off a piece of the root. Separate pieces each ten centimeters long. At least five eyes should be on the severed piece.
Plant the root cuttings in the intended location and mulch the soil.
Lower the rods
This form of propagation is rarely used in raspberries. They put a rod on the ground and cover it with soil in several places.
Under the roots form, from which a new raspberry bush is formed. They can be planted in the spring.
Tips & Tricks
When exchanging foothills or root cuttings with the neighbor, make sure that the "mother plant" is healthy and does not suffer from root rot or other fungal diseases. Otherwise, you will transfer diseases that are difficult to eradicate to your garden.
