Is ladygrass a pond plant?

Various plants are available under the name of grasshoppers. While Scirpus cernuus is more commonly thought of as a houseplant, Stipa tenuissima is also suitable for planting flower borders and flower beds. Therefore, this refers to the Stipa tenuissima.

Stipa stands for feather grass, which says a lot about the feathery appearance of these plants. In German, Stipa tenuissima has a lot of very well-sounding names, such as angel hair, heron feather grass or just women's grass.

Barn grass is a sweet grass. The stems are up to 80 cm long. Since they usually tend to be, the plant is only about 60 cm high, which does not harm their beauty in any way. However, there are also dwarf varieties and especially tall ones.

Where does the grass weed feel especially comfortable?

Often, the grasshoppers are only grown once a year, then you can plant it in almost any place in your garden, only bright enough, it should be there. If you want to take advantage of the full lifespan of three to four years, then put your ladygrass in a sunny spot with light and well drained soil. Stipa tenuissima fits very well in a prairie garden or in wild perennial borders.

In the summer, the delicate, almost inconspicuous flowers of the Stipa tenuissima, which then gently sway in the wind, show a nice contrast to colorful flowering perennials in the neighborhood. In no case should you cut back the grass of the female grass in autumn, otherwise you will miss an eye-catcher in your wintry garden. If a cut is necessary, wait until early spring.

Can I also plant my ladybug on the pond?

Stipa tenuissima does not tolerate waterlogging, there is a threat of rot. Therefore, this plant is not suitable for pond planting. Better put your ladybug away, maybe in the background of your pond, where it will not get "wet feet". This will give you more enjoyment of this delicate plant for a longer time than if you plant it directly on the edge of the pond.

Tips

Although grassgrass is a winter hardy ornamental grass, it usually needs to be replaced after a few years because it is not particularly enduring.
