The blossom of the Frangipani (Plumeria)
The Frangipani, also called Plumeria, is an ornamental plant, which enchants above all by its beautiful, fragrant flowers. In order for a beautiful flower to develop, the frangipani needs a lot of care and a favorable location.
Frangipani flower in many colors
Frangipani is available in different varieties. The umbelliferous flower may be white, yellow or red.
If you want to use cuttings from a frangipani to grow new plants, keep in mind that yellow and white species are rooted rather than red varieties.
If the frangipani does not develop flowers
If the frangipani does not develop flowering, you may have exaggerated fertilising. You may only fertilize the plant until the beginning of flowering. After that she will not get any fertilizer for four to six months, because she needs a long rest. Too much nutrients make the Frangipani lazy.
Premature bud drop
If the flowers of the frangipani fall off before they have opened, care or location errors are responsible.
A frangipani needs a lot of light and also tolerates direct sun very well. If it is too dark, no flowers form. The temperatures at the site must not be lower than 15 degrees - even at night!
The buds drop prematurely even if you change the plumeria too often. If possible, find a place where you can stay for a long time.
Tips
The first time a frangipani flowers depends on whether it was raised from seed or cuttings. Cuttings from cuttings often bloom in the first year, while you have to wait for the flowering of seed-propagated plants for up to five years.
