Pulling a forsythia as a high stem does not work
Many garden lovers would like to pull their forsythia as a tribe. They hope that this will result in less spreading of the shrub and the possibility to plant flowers under the tree trunk. Forsythia, however, are shrubs and can not be readily planted as a high stem.
Forsythia shrubs can not be cut to high stem
The hobby gardener imagines it easy to pull a high stem from his forsythia. But it is not enough to set a cutting and cut it again and again.
Forsythia grow mesotonically. This means that most of the new shoots sprout in the middle of the bush.
The attempt to use a woody branch as a basis for the high-stem fails, just because new shoots continuously grow out of the ground.

Forsythia as a high strain are available from the gardener. However, these are always cuttings that have been refined on a base.

Regularly cutting
A high-stem forsythia from the gardener must be cut continuously so that the crown retains its spherical shape.

While a full-blown forsythia can grow up to ten feet tall, high-stem forsythia tend to be small.
For high-stem plants mostly smaller, upright sown varieties are used. Even regular cutting causes the forsythia to spread less and grow in height.
