Most palm species are non-toxic
Are palms poisonous to humans or animals?
Houseplants that contain toxins can be dangerous in households where children or animals live. Especially cats like to nibble on the leaves of palm trees and it is almost impossible to supervise the offspring around the clock so that he does not nibble from the plants out of curiosity.
Real palm trees are non-toxic
Palm plants such as the betel palm or the popular Kentia palm are quite uncomplicated to care for and contain no toxic substances. This is different for plants that are referred to as "palm trees" in Germany, but are not real palm trees.
Tips
There is no guarantee that a houseplant will be completely harmless - so fungicides or insecticides for children or pets spread during rearing can pose a risk. Play it safe if you place plants out of the reach of your two- or four-legged flatmates.
