Are there different varieties of the Dipladenia?
From the Dipladenia, also known as Mandevilla, there are more than 100 varieties. It was already well known in the 19th century, but was forgotten in the meantime.Many breeds were more or less adapted to the European climate.
Very interesting are, for example, the different Dipladenia Sundaville species that a Japanese breeder from the Mandevilla has developed. So the Dipladenia "Sundaville Red" (R) captivates with beautiful velvet flowers and a particularly lush growth.
Which Dipladenia is suitable for which location?
Basically, all Dipladenien should get a warm and bright place. Depending on their size and growth form, some varieties are better or worse for the planting of window boxes or hanging baskets.
Plant in box boxes best small-sized and rather bushy awake varieties, optionally hanging or semi-hanging, such as plants from the Sundaville Classic series or "Diamantina Jade White". Since the Dipladenia tolerate no waterlogging, create a drainage layer in the planters before planting.
In boxes that put you on the terrace or in the garden, you can also plant a high-alert and / or creeping Dipladenia. Give the plant a climbing aid, for example a trellis or a special trellis stick. Keep in mind, however, that the Dipladenia are not hardy and should be brought into a suitable bright winter quarters quite early.
