Maintaining Christmas roses in the apartment properly
Although the Christmas rose, as the Christmas rose is often called because of its flowering period, is often sold in the run up to Christmas, it is not a houseplant. In the house it is kept only during the flowering period and should then be brought outdoors.
At what location does the Christmas rose thrive in the house?
The Christmas rose may not be too warm in the house. A good location is:
Well suited are hall windows, entrance area of the apartment, unheated conservatory. Temperatures should not rise above 12 degrees.
How is the snow-rose poured into the house?
Pour moderately but regularly. Whenever the top layer of soil is dry, the plant needs water. You can use lime-containing tap water for this. Avoid waterlogging.
Does the Christmas rose need fertilizer on a regular basis?
Purchased Christmas roses need no fertilizer in the house. They are anyway after the flowering season set in the field or placed outside in the bucket.
Do I have to cut the Christmas rose?
If you wish, you can cut off the flowers as deeply as possible. Absolutely necessary is not.
How is the snow-rose replanted?
After flowering, place the snow-rose either in the flowerbed or in a very deep pot.
The bucket should be filled with nutritious garden soil and have drainage.
Make sure that you do not damage the roots when transplanting.
Which diseases and pests can occur?
Illnesses hardly ever occur. When the leaves wither, it is usually because the Christmas rose is too wet.
As with all plants in the house, aphids and spider mites can cause the Christmas rose.
Collect the pests as quickly as possible and spray the Christmas rose with soapy water if necessary. Do not over-close several Christmas roses to reduce pest infestation.
What happens after flowering?
After flowering, you slowly get used to the Christmas rose to the outside temperatures. You can plant the snow roses in spring, when the soil is no longer frozen.
Tips & Tricks
If the Christmas roses transplanted into the garden or tub do not bloom, you should check the lime content of the soil. The Schneerose loves calcareous, somewhat loamy plant substrate.
