The stinging nettle can be propagated by sowing, but this requires a lot of patience. The seeds are often available in specialized stores in "mixed" assortments, not varietal or color pure. Self-gathering is not recommended for the seeds of the colorful nettle, because often the flower is not even allowed to bloom.
Seed the stinging nettle best in pots, cover the pots with a transparent foil and keep the substrate well moist. For germination, the seeds need a temperature of at least 20 ° C, like it may also be slightly warmer. The seeds should not be covered with soil or substrate, because these are light germs.
After about 14 - 21 days, the first seedlings show up, but unfortunately they do not yet reveal their final color. Now remove the foil, but keep the soil evenly moist. Once two or three leaf pairs have formed, they can transplant the seedlings into flowerpots in pairs or threes, and after about two further pairs of leaves, you know which colors your stinging nettles have.

The propagation by cuttings is very easy with the stinging nettle. Cut about 10 cm long shoots that are not too tender. You can also use the pinched flower shoots. Remove the bottom pairs of leaves so that only the top two remain. Now put these shoots in a glass of water or put them in a pot with potting soil.
