To make an unwilling bromeliad bloom

Buying a blooming bromeliad in the store is not difficult. Bringing young plants grown from offspring to flower is sometimes challenging. Good to know that there is a simple trick to getting the flower going. You can find out how the plan works here.

An apple attracts the bromeliads

In commercial plant breeding, gardeners use ethylene fumigation to accelerate flowering of a bromeliad. Ethylene is attributed to the plant hormones and is suitable as a plant growth substance. Among other things, ripening fruits give off this gas. These climacteric fruits include apples, bananas or peaches. Clever hobby gardeners use this circumstance to promote flower formation. That is how it goes:

By filling the coaster with water and expanded clay, you also create a high level of humidity under the hood. In combination with the effluent ethylene, the formation of the flower is forced. Of course, this process only works if the bromeliad has never flowered before.

Proper care until flowering

A bright, warm location and ethylene gas alone are not enough to make bromeliad blossom. Spray the plant with lime-free water every 2 days. Furthermore, the funnel inside the leaf rosette should not dry out. Replace the water in the cistern every 4 weeks. By adding a liquid bromine fertilizer to the irrigation water every 8 to 10 days, the sullen plant gains fresh energy.

Tips

All the tips and tricks to make a bromeliad blossom are lost if you separate a child from the mother plant too early. Make the division only when an independent leaf rosette has developed at the offshoot and the stature height has reached at least 10 cm.
