Which anthurium varieties are cultivated as a houseplant?
With its brightly colored bract and the towering flower flask, the anthurium presents itself very elegantly and fits in perfectly with the purist living style of our time. Not only as an easy-care potted plant, but also as a durable cut flower, the various varieties are very popular.

The big flamingo flower (anthurium andraeanum)
This flamingo flower is characterized by its impressive size. It blooms less rich, but all the more magnificent. Their leaves have a leather-like structure and grow up to forty centimeters long. The sheath leaves shine varnish-like and are green, white, salmon, pink or dark red. Its structure is reminiscent of hammered metal, which looks very sexy. The spadix is relatively short and always yellow or cream.
Because of its size, this variety is a rarely encountered houseplant. However, it is well suited as a vase flower, which is characterized by its very long shelf life.
Anthurium Scherezerianum
This variety is also called small flamingo flower and is very common in our apartments. It has lancet-shaped, leather-like leaves, which, however, do not exceed thirty centimeters in size. This fits very well on a smaller flower window. The brightly colored cover leaf shines waxy and is about ten inches long. It surrounds a mostly orange-red, spirally turned flowerpot.
Anthurium Crystal Linum
The heart-shaped foliage of this flamingo flower is extremely decorative. The individual sheets can be up to 55 inches long. First metallic-purple, the foliage in older plants turns deep emerald green. Midrib and main veins are sharply demarcated and have a silvery white pattern.
This anthurium is cultivated solely for the foliage. The flowers and bracts are rather inconspicuous.
Tips
In order to develop their pretty flowers, anthuriums need enough light, but no direct sunlight. If the selected location is too dark, make sure you have enough light with a plant lamp.
