Recognize and combat mildew on zucchini plants
If white, gray or brown spots appear on the leaves and parts of the courgettes, the plant is infested with powdery mildew or downy mildew. Both are fungal diseases and must be combated immediately as they can lead to the death of the leaves or the whole plant.
Powdery mildew
In powdery mildew, white, flour-like patches cover the surfaces of the leaves, but also of stems and fruits. Finally, the leaves turn brown and die. The cause of powdery mildew is prolonged dryness.
Wrong mildew
Wet and cold weather can lead to infestation with downy mildew. You will recognize it on whitish to brownish, velvety coverings on the underside of the leaf and brown or yellow spots on the top.
