The cinnamon does not necessarily have to be circumcised

Do you have to cut the cinnamon?

The name is a bit misleading, because the cinnamon smells very strong, but more like vanilla and not cinnamon. Nevertheless, it is a very decorative flowering plant that usually does not need to be pruned.

How big is the cinnamon?

The Zimterle, also called Scheineller, belongs to the ornamental shrubs and is where it feels comfortable, about two to three feet tall. It is a genus of about 80 different species. Among them are smaller varieties that are about 1.50 m high and dwarf varieties that reach a maximum of 40 or 50 cm in size.

When should I cut the cinnamon?

If you have planted a cinnamon of the larger varieties in the shade, then prune the plant from time to time so that it does not become frosted on the ground. Small varieties do not need a cut.

If the shrub is very luxuriant, you can light it up in the spring, it will be too big, then a careful pruning is possible. But do not cut too radically, otherwise the flower suffers. You should only do a radical cutting if you really want to rejuvenate the cinnamon.

Does the Zimterle need a special place in the garden?

The Zimterle is quite easy to maintain, but has some demands on their location. If possible, this should be partially shady and moist and rather acidic. Ideally, the pH of the soil is between 4.5 and 7. With a test kit from the hardware store or garden shop, you can easily determine the pH yourself and, if necessary, treat the soil with appropriate fertilizer.

The Zimterle can be combined well with other plants. Make sure, however, that they do not have a strong scent. Even if the individual plants smell pleasant a combination can easily turn into the opposite. Incidentally, insects also like the cinnamon, it is considered an excellent bee pasture.

Tips

Combine the Zimterle with decorative but low-scented shrubs and flowers, otherwise you might soon be "fed up" with your beautiful garden.
