The winter horsetail, like all horsetail species, is absolutely hardy
Wintering of winter horsetail
Winter horsetail is completely hardy like pond horsetail or field horsetail. It is therefore not necessary to overwinter the plant. Only if you pull winter horsetail in the pot, you must ensure a frost-free hibernation.
Winter horsetail does not have to overwinter you
Winter horsetail is very robust. Frosty temperatures do not bother the plant. The roots are so deep in the ground, that it would have to give weeks of intense frost to bring the roots to freeze.
You do not have to hibernate Winter Horsetail in the field or at the pond. Do not cut it down in the fall, but wait with the pruning until spring.
If the winter horsetail is pulled in the bucket, you must overwinter it exactly like the pond horsetail in the pot frost-free.
Tips
Like all horsetail species, winter horsetail tends to spread uncontrollably over foothills. Therefore, you prefer to plant the decorative ornamental plant in a bucket.
