Usually you multiply a Christmas cactus over cuttings. This method works almost always and you can quickly enjoy a branch with many flowers.
To grow a Christmas cactus out of seeds, you need some experience and a lot of patience. It can take many months for a new flowering plant to develop.
How To Pull Offshoots From Cuttings
Right after flowering is the best time to grow a Christmas cactus. Use a sharp knife to cut off shoots of one to three limbs from the mother plant. Let the interfaces dry for two to three days.
Fill small pots with a mixture of potting soil and cactus soil. Insert the shoots two to three centimeters deep into the soil and gently press the substrate.
Make the branches bright but not too sunny. Keep the substrate evenly damp, avoid too much moisture. You can also cover the pots with cling film to keep the moisture constant. The foil must be aired at least every two days so that the cuttings do not rot or mold.
Pull Christmas cactus out of seeds
Some varieties not only produce flowers, they also produce fruits with seeds. When ripe, the fruits burst. They contain many of the tiny seeds. Shake out the seeds, remove the pulp and let it dry. They must be stored dry until sowing the following spring.
In spring, fill small seedlings with loose cactus soil or potting soil. Sow the seeds as thin as possible. Cover the sowing with a very thin layer of earth. To moisten the substrate, it is best to use a flower syringe to prevent the seed from being washed away.
It may take several weeks for the seed to germinate and not all seeds will be absorbed by far.

If the young Christmas cactus plants have reached a height of about two to three centimeters, gently prick them. Later, the individual plantlets are transplanted into pots of cactus soil and maintained there like adult Christmas cacti.
Tips
As a substrate for Christmas cactus is commercially available cactus soil. But you can also use garden soil, which loosen up with sand and gravel. It is important that the earth is not too nutritious.
