When will hydrangeas be cut back?
Contrary to popular belief that hydrangeas should not be cut under any circumstances, this is entirely possible. The only thing that matters is the right time for the hydrangea to enchant the garden with its lush white, blue, pink or red flowers during the summer months.

When will hydrangeas of section 1 be cut?
So that these hydrangeas form as many flowers as possible, they should only be cut back very carefully and carefully. The best time for this care measure is the spring, when no more frosts are expected. Proceed as follows for the spring cut:

These hydrangea species are a bit easier to maintain, as their shoot behavior resembles that of many garden shrubs. Because these hydrangea species bloom on annual wood, they can easily cope with a stronger pruning in the spring.
A second cut is made after flowering in autumn. Shorten all shoots except for one pair of eyes to promote the branched growth of the plant. The one-year wood is shortened by about one third. In addition, light the hydrangea so that enough light can penetrate into the interior. This also promotes the flower regeneration.
Hydrangeas from Section 2 flatten and bud less and less flowers if they are not cut back. However, you do not necessarily have to cut these hydrangeas. Uncut, the hydrangeas of Section 2 grow into mighty shrubs that bear hardly any foliage in the middle but countless flowers and leaves in the outer area. This can be very sexy.
