When is the best planting time for currants?
Basically, you can plant currants anytime between February and December. But as with all berry bushes, the shrubs grow best if you bring them into the ground in autumn or early spring.
When is the best planting time for currants?
Like almost all berry bushes, currants grow the fastest when you plant them in the fall. This is especially true for root-bare shrubs that were delivered without soil or that you yourself have propagated.
The soil is well moistened in autumn. It then suffices to dress the freshly planted shrub properly. Further watering is only required if the autumn is unusually dry.
If you missed the best planting season in the fall, you should wait until early spring to plant the currants. You then have to make sure that the shrub gets enough moisture.
Cut back the currants before planting
Since the currant is placed so deep in the soil that the shrub base is below the ground, it is advisable to prune the plant beforehand.
Plant currants in the summer

Their roots are already anchored in the potting soil and therefore well supplied with nutrients.
For the shrub, pick up a planting hole that provides enough space for the root ball and soil.
Planting container plants
Carefully remove the plant from the pot. The roots must not be injured. Loosen the bale only slightly on the surface.
Water the pot bale in a bucket of water for several hours before planting it.
Do not forget to water freshly planted currant bushes in spring or summer. Make sure that no waterlogging occurs.
Tips & Tricks
