Lilies grow best in the field, but they can also be cultivated in the tub. Due to their size, however, this is somewhat difficult with tree lilies and only possible with a correspondingly large and heavy planter.

Since tree lilies prefer a sunny to partially shaded place, they should get it too. A southeast or west-facing terrace or a corresponding balcony are quite well suited, the blazing midday sun less.
Ideal is a sheltered place, because of its high growth, the tree lily is quite susceptible to wind. It could easily bend in windy weather or storm or tip over with the bucket.

In the bucket your tree lily needs a little more care than in the field. A hole in the bottom of the planter and a drainage layer ensure that excess irrigation water drains off easily.
As the soil in the bucket leaches over time and the tree lily needs a good deal of nutrients during growth and flowering, regular fertilization is essential. Also, look for an infestation with lily chickens, they can destroy the whole plant. Protection against voles, however, is not necessary.

Since the aboveground plant parts pass in the autumn, only the onion must be overwintered. Here you have the choice to protect the whole bucket from excessive frost or to keep the onion cool, dark and dry, for example in your basement.
