Yellow leaves usually indicate a lack of nutrients
Bleeding heart has yellow leaves, what to do?
Actually, the Bleeding Heart is a pretty sturdy plant that will not be attacked by pests or pathogens. Only if the mountain forest plant is too sunny, it is weakened and preferably harbored by plant lice. At the end of the flowering period and beyond, the leaves of the perennial are often unsightly yellow. What is behind it?
Yellow leaves are normal after flowering
Normally, yellow leaves in many garden plants mean that they are missing something - mostly nutrients - or they are attacked by pests. However, in the Bleeding Heart, yellow leaves are completely normal and no sign of deficiency or disease - provided the yellow color does not appear until late in flowering and / or shortly thereafter. The perennial is thus preparing for the winter and will retreat within a short time into its subterranean rhizome.
Tips
However, if the yellow leaves occur well before the usual time, voles might be behind it. The voracious rodents like to eat the fleshy rhizomes, so that they gradually come.
